About the Artist
Ekkehard Altenburger studied at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen, Sculpture departement, Germany; the Edinburgh College of Art, sculpture department, Edinburgh, Scotland; and at the Chelsea College of Art, London, UK. Some of his recent exhibitions include 'a hora azul,' 2001 solo show at the Goethe Institute, Salvador, Brazil; 'The Jerwood Sculpture Price," 2001, Jerwood Space, London, UK; "Colourspace," 2003, at the Gallery at APT, London; and in 2004 at the RBSGallery, South Kensington, London. In 2000, Altenburger won the Kunsthalle Bremen Video art prize. In 2004-2005, he was commissioned by Brighton and Hove for two sculptures and by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Gateshead for two marble sculptures, photographic work and design of a rock garden with sculptural elements.
