There’s an exciting project taking place right now: ArtOneida is a celebration of public artwork throughout Oneida County. The ArtOneida team is researching public artwork across the county to be included in an online archive with an interactive digital map and a commemorative book, which will be on sale in Munson Gallery Store, The Onieda County Historical Society Mall store and Signature 81 by December 16th. This project is sponsored by Sculpture Space, in Utica, NY, as a part of their 40th anniversary, with funding from the Oneida County Partners in Prosperity Initiative.
The main idea of the project is to get Oneida residents and visitors out looking at and discussing the diverse public art throughout the county, promoting tourism to all areas. Artwork already included ranges from 19th century monuments of local heroes to chainsaw carvings, community murals to contemporary sculpture at Griffiss International Sculpture Garden, and from intricate stained glass to “yarn-bombs.”
The ArtOneida team is also sharing images and information about what they find in posts on the @ArtOneida accounts for Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest, and on Sculpture Space’s Facebook page.
