Radisson Hotel – Utica Centre Ballroom, Utica, NY
Sculpture Space's Mardi Gras Extravaganza celebrated it's LUCKY 13th year, on February 23, 2013 at the Radisson Hotel – Utica Centre Ballroom, Utica, NY. As always, this event was a unique, wild and fabulous benefit, made possible in part with sponsorship support from generous local, regional, national and international businesses and corporations, including Bank of Utica, ConMed Corporation, JP Morgan Chase, PJ Green, Inc., the New Hartford Town Crier and KISS FM.
Admission included an open bar featuring signature drinks, a parade of monumental dancing marionettes from the Catskill Puppet Theater, the popular radio DJ Big Poppa, authentic Cajun delicacies, masks and beads and the popular costume contest and balloon art and activities provided by COCO and DOLLY.
Sculpture Space selected Utica residents Don Shipman and husband Adam Lawless as the Royal Couple for Mardi Gras 2013 and helped kick off the night’s festivities. As WKTV’s highly revered Evening News Anchor, Don Shipman is well known throughout the community for his exceptional reporting and his untiring support of the regions many events for local non-profit organizations. Adam Lawless, Manager of Community Engagement and Marketing for the United Way, is a pioneer of programs that provide critical necessities for those in need and promote a cleaner community for all to enjoy. “Don and Adam are extraordinary members of the Mohawk Valley Community. Their selection honors them for their service to our region and will set the pace for a great event” said Robert Avery, Chair of Mardi Gras and member of the Sculpture Space Board of Directors. The couple is preceded by two of the event's original Co-Founders and former member of the Sculpture Space Board, Joe and Michelle Corasanti (’11) along with well known members of the local business community, Joe and Frances Suppa (’12).
“Sculpture Space’s Mardi Gras Party has perfected the art of partying, at the time of year when Cabin Fever has just begun to settle in,” noted Robert Avery. He adds that it is “more like a party than a fundraiser (guests frequently forget it’s a benefit they are having so much fun)! Come ‘wild or mild,’ costumed, in ball gowns or in street clothes, anything goes – just like New Orleans! And for those who get inspired, the dancing platforms will be there as well!”
Participating in the Mardi Gras party is a great opportunity to support a unique organization such as Sculpture Space. All proceeds benefit the artist and community programs at Sculpture Space.
