Residency: July – August 2007
Manabu Nakanishi works with a variety of materials that includes Styrofoam trays, plastics, metals and ceramics, transforming his sketches into three-dimensional pieces. His sculpture, which is defined by bold primary colors reminiscent of the age of rock and roll, is focused on such themes as the universe and life. His residency project, VOID PROJECT, was exhibited at the Pratt@MWP Gallery and was made possible in part with support from the ASAHI Shimbun Foundation. A graduate of Osaka University of the Arts, Nakanishi received the Sakuya Konohana Prize in Arts in Osaka in 1990, and had a solo exhibition, Primeval Soup, in 2006.
