Our Annual CHAIRity Art Auction

A Collector’s Paradise

One night Art Auction

Each fall, Sculpture Space opens it’s doors for its largest fundraiser of the year. This special evening features original works of art and functional objects created by national, international, regional and local artists. The evening focuses on both live and silent art auctions. This fundraiser is an important event each year that helps to keep the gates open at Sculpture Space.

Many of the contributing artists are alumni of Sculpture Spaces internationally recognized artist-in-residency program. Since 1976, Sculpture Space has hosted over 600 visiting artists from 29 countries and 29 states that are as nearby as New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and as far away as Japan, Iran, Australia and China. Artists are invited to come and live in Utica for two months and create new work, explore novel techniques and materials and engage with artists from other states and countries, In turn, local and regional residents, business owners, artists and art lovers not only connects with these artists to gain insight into their creative process and inspiration, but also share their unique and global perspectives. When these artists return home, they become informal ambassadors; work created while in residence in Utica is subsequently exhibited in galleries, museums and sculpture parks around the world.

The live auction will include a wide variety of art- including decorative sculpture, paintings, lamps, furniture, jewelry, and ceramics donated by international and local artists and artisans. The always-anticipated Earth Day collection, created from repurposed materials donated by Empire Recycling, is a high point for the auction. To ensure CHAIRity remains a something-for-everyone affair, the silent auction also features smaller works of art, handmade items, gift certificates, travel opportunities, and other contributions from local businesses and supporters.

Support for Sculpture Space programs is made possible in part with support from the New York State Council for the Arts, the Central New York Arts Council, and the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties.
