Aeneas Wilder

Edinburgh, Scotland
Residency: March – April 2006

Aeneas Wilder’s work is principally that of an iconoclast. The questions raised through his creative practice focus on the validity of both cultural production and national and personal identity. In questioning these systems a broader critique of society comes to light, that of controlled activity, usefulness within society, necessity of ownership/consumption and the manipulation of our perceptions and values. The dramatically transient nature of many of his earlier works highlights the distorted perceptions of permanence within society. Wilder works with installation, video and/or performance. He has designed a Universal Flag, which he is in the process of using to dissolve national boundaries.
