Project Description
“Mirage” is a weather-sensitive art installation that moves when there is a breeze. The piece consists of over 500 silver stakes to which silver fabric ribbons are attached that flutter a few inches from the ground when there is a breeze. The piece is meant to be viewed from a distance to better convey a sense of a mirage, a natural optical phenomenon that occurs when there are different heat temperatures layered in the atmosphere. The piece was installed on Sunday, July 11 to honor the Boilermaker racers, who end their race in the Sculpture Space neighborhood at Butler Park.
