"Interaction between individuals becomes the cause of the whole and at the same time is caused by the whole. My work is concerned with aesthetics that result from interactive systems. The systems I construct produce drawings, compositions, and objects…

Existence consists of individuals sustaining and defining one another. The work entitled 50 drones utilizes group interaction to produce varied arrangements within 50 devices. Despite the fact that each unit within a collection of multiples is constructed to identical specifications, they behave in subtly distinctive ways. Individual units, which arrange themselves in organic configurations, can be seen to represent a school of fish, particles in a state of disbursement, an active insect colony, or a crowd of people displacing one another. Collective behavior constructs identity on a larger scale within a group."

Bowen received his M.F.A. from the University of Minnesota, and a B.F.A. from Herron School of Art, Indiana University Purdue University. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. His recent exhibits include: "Interactive Systems," Zone Gallery, Kansas City; "Recent Works," Greater Lafayette Museum of Art, Lafayette, IN; and "Compulsive Expression," Blackstone River Gallery, Woonsocket, RI. In 2005. Bowen will travel to Bangkok, Thailand to participate in an annual international media arts festival featuring experimental sculpture, video, digital art and installation entitled "The Thailand New Media Art Festival."
