James Leonard is a Brooklyn-based visual artist who creates works that engage the social, spiritual, and psychological impacts of pressing ecological concerns. These concerns include climate change, ocean acidification, and peak resources. His exhibition record includes Queens Museum, the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, Wasserman Projects in Detroit, the Delaware Art Museum, and MASS MoCA. His work has been supported by the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities, the Jersey City Parks Coalition, and the Boston Center for the Arts. His work has been written about in publications including Smithsonian, Brooklyn Magazine, and Hyperallergic. He has presented as visiting artist at institutions including Cornell, Harvard, and American University.
