Artist Statement
My current body of work is focused on investigating listening devices. I solder together multiple headphones into various configurations, make chambers for sound to be listened through and combine found and recorded sound using both electrical and non-electrical means. My initial desire was to find an intermediary between personal and public space; seeing headphones and wire as an architectural element, like a wall or a door. However, the work has grown to encompass questions about the phenomenon of sound and how ephemeral things like sound waves and electricity can organize space. The work may be seen as sitting somewhere between sound art and sculpture.
